When I first considered the idea to work online from home, I found myself getting caught up in all the hype way too many times. Even though I thought I was being careful I still fell for too many get rich quick plans. Now, over ten years later, I learned that the hype I got caught in were typical beginner mistakes. So if you are thinking about taking the plunge and trying to work online from home let me share with you a few tips that I wish I would have known ahead of time.
1. Avoid flooding your inbox with all the “6 figure income” promises, special offers and freebies. They will distract you, confuse you, sap a lot of valuable energy, and take you away from the steps you should be focusing on to build your business.
And many of these “get rich quick” opportunities don’t work unless you have a lot of cash to invest up front, or are already a brilliant entrepreneur earning good money. In which case, you probably wouldn’t be a WAHM, you would be making a six figure salary and paying a nanny!
2. Watch what you spend on “small” offers. These small amounts can start to add up quickly, and most of the time you are hyped up to buy because some copywriter has been paid good money to to write an awesome sales letter that makes it really hard to resist.
BEHIND-THE-SCENES SECRET: That inexpensive miracle e-Book you buy will usually only give you part of the picture. You will need to subscribe monthly to something, or buy software or another product, to get all the information you need and then there will be another level you need and another level (Its called a “marketing funnel.” If you’re not yet familiar with the term, do look it up in the search engines.)
3. If you want to work online from home you shouldn’t just limit yourself to WAHM forums where you feel safe and comfortable. Step outside of your safety zone as often as you can handle it. Don’t get me wrong, WAHM forums can be a great source of information and offer support however, many women who wish to work online from home get a bit too comfortable hanging out on the forums instead of taking action.
Tip: Go to Google and type in “direct response marketing”. You will get a much more objective view of the many internet marketing strategies and terms.
These are just three tips to help you get started in your venture to work online from home. Of course there is much more to it than this but these tips should help you get started. The most successful women who work online from home and promote themselves as successful WAHMs do earn a competitive living (sometimes even a 6-figure one) ” but its not from labeling and limiting themselves. They are businesswomen first.
