The adjustment to working from home can be difficult, so establishing a familiar routine will help you get your work done more effectively.
As an office worker you get used to the routine that your day falls in to. You start work at a certain time, you have your regular activities that you do when you first begin, you schedule your day around a timetable, and then you get set to leave at a certain time. You rate your efficacy on the deadlines you set for yourself based on your daily routine.
If set a task in the morning that has to be completed before you leave for the day, then you can split that task up in your mind based on the schedule of your regular day and then set deadlines for yourself that will enable you to end the job on time.
While working from home means that you can set your own schedule, it is crucial that you go about setting a routine each day that will allow you to still set those personal deadlines that can help you get work completed when it needs to be completed. If you do not get involved in a daily routine, then you will find it harder to focus on your jobs as time go by.
When you acknowledge that you need to be in your home office by a certain time and then set yourself break times throughout the day that you stay with, then you can be more certain to get all of the work completed that you need to get completed in the course of your day.
When working from home you obviously have the option of extending your day in order to get more tasks done and make more income. But at the cener of your day there needs to be a routine that you are commited to that will keep you passing through your day and allow you to finish jobs when needed. That routine can start right when you wake up in the morning, as it would if you worked for someone else in an office, and take you right up to a pre-designated quitting time.
You may find that after some time staying with a rigid routine no longer suits your work at home job, and that is perfectly OK. If you have determined that you can work outside a schedule and get your task done then you have adjusted to working at home and you are now motivated by your own achievements rather than the need to have a workday routine. But the adjustment to working at home is very difficult for many people, and instituting a daily routine can help you focus on your business and succeed in your attempt to work from/at home.
