It really gets me watching NYSE the day oil starts to feel tired. I’m not sure it’s that what makes those guys lose it completely but it’s quite a show. Now, imagine their IT stuff goes wrong and all their incomprehensible screens turn blue. Would be a day to remember. No, it wouldn’t actually but it came to my mind because it happened to me.
Big day at the office - WE ARE GOING TO SIGN that contract we have been negotiating for I don’t remember how long. Papers are flying, engineers are juggling on the edge of a heart attack, managers, well I don’t really know what exactly managers are doing but hey, who am I to ask these questions?
But as Buddha says, we all have 99 problems at any given time. Or was it Jay Z who said it first? Never mind that, my laptop finishes booting as I watch an engineer crying, writing his resignation, talking to his wife, crying again and finally throwing the resignation in the bin. Then, in the brief moment that takes a CAD file to open, I mentally compose a thousand words essay about the 27 years old tennis player female colleague in front of me. Finally, while opening a simple text file, it decides enough is enough and quits. Laptop, that is. Engineer stays but he is not very helpful.
Obviously, my laptop gives up living while reading a simple message ( truth to be told the messages from my boss give you this kick ). Call the specialists I say to myself. IT support that is. I’m pretty sure they are specialists, they know what they’re doing, but doesn’t really help because they are doing it in Spanish. Apparently some mastermind decided the best IT support would be the one in Madrid.
Now, don’t get me wrong, Madrid is wonderful, all of Spain is wonderful but this particular IT support, well I’m pretty sure their market quota would raise considerable if they would learn, I don’t know, English for example. Anyway, in this particular case I have no time for guerrilla marketing how-to so I hang up, say some things in Spanish which I’ve once heard from a disgruntled Spanish taxi driver and call some guys I know In the IT support for Italy two floors up. Hilarious but true.
The other one would be for you, a respectable Cork company, to hire the best IT support to be found in Korea. No, it wouldn’t. Personal experience - make sure your IT support understand your needs. If you’re a multinational, here’s an out of the box idea- why not let somebody local choose its IT support. Might work better.
An itil certification is the support you need for an improvement in your career life.
