1. Do not wear anything that is bright or offensive to anyone. Just avoid any problems by wearing a suit. Black or navy blue is the sure way to go. Add a white shirt and nice shoes, and tada! You look great.
2. Looking like a slut on your interview is not a good idea. You should have a shirt that covers your collarbone, pants that are loose, and a relatively long skirt. Make sure your hair looks nice and conservative and that your jewelry isn’t too showy.
3. Always call your potential employer by Mr. or Mrs., not their first name. It might offend them if you call them their first name before they allow you to.
4. If you are working in the entertainment industry, then you can ignore the formal clothing rules. They wear jeans to work all the time, never suits, unless they are at lunch with movie executives.
5. Bring several copies of your resume with you in a nice briefcase. Even though you may have already emailed your resume beforehand, your employer might be too lazy to have printed it out, or actually read it.
6. When you shake hands, make sure your hand is not sweaty. That can be a real turn off to employers. Also, wipe your face before you go in. Sweating is so not cool.
7. Make eye contact with your employer or else they will think you are a wuss.
8. Tell your employer you are open to doing anything, are willing to be incredibly flexible, and will basically sell your soul for an entry level position. In this economy, this is the only way to get your foot in the door.
9. The employer will ask if you have any questions, and make sure you have something for them to make you sound smart.
10. Do not disagree with your employer. No matter what he says, agree!
11. Think of things you can compliment around the office, like the view, the amount of money he makes, or how hot the secretary is.
12. When the meeting is over, shake hands again, say thank you and ask when you can expect an answer.
13. You will look great if you call later and thank them for the interview in your follow up call.
14. Make a follow up call several days later and just remind them that you’re a candidate. This will help the employer remember you, and hopefully, he will pick you because your name came up more than once and you seem like a proactive person.
