When you are looking for a job, one of the most ominous tasks you have to complete is going on interviews. Job interviews are nerve wracking - and they can be difficult to figure out. Inevitably, when you are interviewing you get asked a series of questions that seem like they have no right answer. There are a few questions that almost always get asked and they do in fact have a correct response. Use the following guide to know what not to say during a job interview.

What Are Your Career Goals? You will be asked this question because the employer is trying to determine your level of interest in the company. They want to know if you are applying because you need a job, or if you have a genuine long term interest in them. You should try to construct your answer in a way that makes you sound ambitious, but realistic. Answer first from a short term perspective, then center your answer around the concept of getting hired by the right company now, as you further your long term career goals.

Why Are You Looking For A New Job? This question can be the one that seals your fate in an interview. By all means, avoid saying anything negative about your co-workers or previous job. Focus instead on your personal career goals. Express your desire to continue to grow and learn and explain that you had reached your maximum growth potential at your previous job.

Why Do You Want To Work For Us? In order to answer this question correctly you will have to do some homework on the company. Research them and find out some pertinent facts that you like. Then you can tell them that you like their philosophies, their past growth history, or some such compliment. This will show them that you are prepared, and that you will go above and beyond to perform your job.

What are your Strengths And Weaknesses? Don’t hesitate to talk yourself up too much - but you don’t want to say that you are so weak at something that they may find to be key to the position in which you are applying. For strengths you want to pick four things you are good at that relate to the job you are applying for. Explain in brief detail why you feel you excel in those areas. You should always admit to one minor weakness if they ask. However, down play that weakness by explaining what you are doing to improve that skill.
