Maybe you’ve just turned 13 or 14 and you realize you need to make some money of your own. How do you do this? If you want to make money and this is your first time looking, you should probably look for a part time job.
Before you get going, understand that it will most likely take some time and you’ll have to look everywhere. Ideally, you would find your dream job and get hired in under an hour, but this probably won’t happen.
Where should you be looking for part time work? Some of the most common first time part time jobs for teenagers are at malls, grocery stores, department stores, fast food joints, small business, car washes, and other places.
I’m sure there are some places you really don’t want to work. If you really don’t want to work there, don’t apply there. Narrow it down to just a few areas or places you want to work.
Don’t go crazy when you narrow down your search. You are only doing this in the beginning. If you land the job you want, that’s great. If you can’t find anything, you’ll have to expand your work.
Now start applying for jobs. Go to the places you want to work at most and ask for an application, but first make sure they are hiring. If they aren’t, move on to your next choice and keep searching.
Don’t make your mom or dad do everything for you. If you don’t take an initiative, you probably won’t get and keep a job. If the manager has to keep talking to your mom, they won’t hire you.
Part time job interviews shouldn’t be nerve wracking. It’s not like you’re going out for a professional job. Just answer the questions, look presentable, look them in the eye, and be polite and honest.
